Open Help Workshop

Fee: $5.00

This workshop is open to anyone who needs advice, help, has questions or wants to practice. No advance registration required. Have questions about using the computer? Get drop in, one-on-one assistance with laptops, tablets, smartphones. Volunteers will be available to help with a variety of questions such as: How to use Windows 10; photos: management & display; computer apps; help with some hand-held devices; assistance with problems such as malware, virus protection etc. Assistance depends on the volunteers available. [If we can't help you, there is NO charge.]

Cloud Computing, An Introduction

Introduction to Cloud Computing is an overview of the basics of using the 'Cloud' for data storage, document backup, and utilizing cloud-based applications. This is a general overview class and will prepare students to utilize cloud vendor services, like Microsoft's OneDrive, GoogleDrive, Dropbox etc...

 Computers and Email Basics for Beginners

Fee: $30.00

Pre-Req: Little to no computer skills

This course is for beginners or new users who are just starting to get familiar with a computer, mouse and keyboard. Class exercises improve skills and teach participants to create and save short documents. Students are introduced to: basic Internet usage, using email, sending and receiving messages and uploading/downloading attachments and photos.

Edge-ing the Internet

This  course teaches the student proper and safe ways to browse the Internet usisng Microsoft Edge, the Windows 10  browser. Students will learn basic browsing: file downloading, browser customization, saving favorites and security concepts.

 

 File Explorer: Where's My Stuff?

This course offers ways to manage data storage and files and covers folder creation, structure and organization using Windows File Explorer.

Windows Photo Gallery can be used to organize, edit, create and share your photos. This workshop will cover transferring photos from your camera to your computer and basic editing.

 

Genealogy Fun with Ancestry.com

Fee: $30.00

6 sessions (2.5 hours each).
Pre-Req: Knowledgeable computer users experienced with Web browsing  who are beginning or casual Ancestry.com users.

This class will teach you how to build and add members to your family tree on Ancestry.com using  its tree storage and research capabilities, such as Hints and Search. Users may already have an Ancestry account or instructor will advise how to get a trial subscription before the class start date.

Get Your Head in the Cloud with Microsoft OneDrive

OneDrive is Microsoft's 'Cloud' storage site. This workshop is an introduction to and an overview of its features, with a more detailed explanation of its use in the Windows 10 File Explorer and how to use the onedrive.com website.

This workshop will teach students to install and use the internet browser Google Chrome. Students may bring their personal laptops to the workshop. If you have a desktop system at home, you will install Google Chrome on a Senior TechEd laptop to get hands on experience in the workshop.
